What will be discussed in the class:

Composting Basics

This class dives into the essential knowledge required to understand soil ecosystems and the biological processes underlying composting. Topics include soil health assessment, nutrient cycling dynamics, carbon-to-nitrogen ratios, and selecting appropriate composting materials.

Composting Benefits

Discover the benefits of composting, as it contributes to enhancing soil fertility, improving environmental sustainability, supporting plant growth, and promoting human health. Uncover the interconnected impact of this single act on various aspects of our ecosystem, from nurturing healthy soils to reducing waste and cultivating a healthier environment for both plants and people.

At Home Composting Methods

I will be demonstrating my 3-step at-home composting system, featuring bokashi composting, static (cold) composting, and vermicomposting techniques. Learn how to adapt these methods to suit your specific needs and maximize composting success!

Microbiology

Uncover the essential role of microorganisms in composting, as they are the key to transforming organic matter into nutrient-rich compost. Dive into the microscopic universe within our soil and compost, and learn how to harness compost as a microbiological inoculant to enhance soil health and fertility.

Lessons in Compost

In addition, we will explore the symbolic significance of composting as a representation of death and rebirth. Discover how this metaphor can be applied in our daily lives as a catalyst for personal growth, in a transformative process I call energetic composting.

Bokashi Bran

Bokashi Bran is a valuable asset for gardening and composting. It contains EM (Effective Microorganisms) that work together to quickly break down organic waste, kickstarting decomposition and enriching soil fertility. While commonly used in bokashi composting, its versatility extends to various composting methods, offering numerous benefits such as enhancing soil microbiology, suppressing pathogens, improving fertility, reducing odors, enhancing soil structure, and promoting plant growth. Bokashi Bran is made locally in Bellaire, MI, and will be available for purchase at the event, accepting cash or Venmo payments.
